Hyderabad: While old property ownership records — be it land or flats — from 1964 have been digitised in Hyderabad, it is not done in other districts of both TS and AP, making them vulnerable to mischief, fire mishap and damp.

In future, litigations may increase if records are not digitised, warned officials. President of the Telangana Sub-Registrars’ Sangham, Mr K. Vijay Bhaskar said, “Digitalisation of old records of all the sub-registrars’ offices of the state should be done on priority basis, as was taken up and completed in Hyderabad.

It is also advisable to bring all the old records to the record room of the office of the district registrar and a record keeper be specially appointed for efficient management of the old records. It will only cost around Rs 100 crore to do this. The department earns Rs 3,500 crore per annum and the government should spend money to strengthen the department.”

In AP too, digitisation has been done only for records after 1980s and there is a need to digitise all the available documents.

Fake e-challan is another major problem being faced in both the states, especially in areas like Nirmal in Adilabad, Peddapally in Karimnagar, Nalgonda and Ranga Reddy districts where buyers fall prey to brokers who tamper the challans and siphon off the challan amount.

Vijayawada district registrar Mr G. Srinivas Rao said, “Only Maharashtra has the e-challan system. We have studied it and will be introducing it in AP soon. On the other hand, AP is likely to introduce the e-stamp system, wherein there will be no need for stamp papers and a digitised stamp will be used. This will be implemented on a pilot basis.”
