Kochi: Though many  voters in urban areas preferred to keep indoors on the polling day, in the coastal panchayats, they   turned up  in huge numbers from early morning braving heavy downpour.

Polling was peaceful  though instances of technical snags of electronic voting machines were reported from many booths causing delay in the process.

Polling officials  said that the process was  delayed since the voters were  not familiar with the electronic voting machines.
“We had to explain several times  how to vote,” an officer said.
