KOZHIKODE: The T P Chandrasekharan Memorial column at Vallikad was damaged once again by antisocial elements, evoking widespread protests in Vadakara. K K Rema, wife of the slain RMP leader, alleged that the CPM was behind the incident and said it showcased their never-ending revenge against T P Chandrasekharan. Including Monday night’s attack, the memorial has been damaged four times.

Police said some miscreants had damaged the memorial column, erected at a place where the leader was hacked to death.

The attack happened when policemen were withdrawn from the site for election duty. K K Rema accused the Kerala police of inaction.

“The callousness of the police also is the reason for such attacks. The Kerala police had assured us that police protection would be given to the memorial and strong action would be taken against the perpetrators of such attacks. However, police could not arrest a single person even when the memorial was damaged a fourth time,” Rema said.

Police force has been deployed in the area to avoid a clash between CPM and RMP cadres.
