ChennaiThe Rashtriya Swayamsevak Sangh (RSS) has appealed to the people to refrain from consuming beef to protect the dwindling cattle wealth and prevent sacrilege of cows.

Though it would not interfere with the individuals’ right to consume beef, the RSS wanted the people to voluntarily give up eating beef to protect the cattle. “But we will not interefer with any individual’s right to eat,” said TN RSS Unit President M. L. Raja.

Quoting the Preamble of the Indian Constitution, which sought to protect the cows, considered holy, he said the sentiments of the majority of the people should be respected, as they wanted cows to be protected and was against its slaughtering.

The cattle-based economy drives the nation’s growth. A planned sacrilege of cows has been hap-pening in the country and steps should be taken to prevent its slaughter, he said and called for a bill on cow-slaughter to protect its dwindling protection.
