Kottayam: The MG University never adheres to its academic and  examination calendars and often the exam results are delayed disrupting the students’ academic activities.  This is mainly due to the lack of consultation among   the teachers, students and the university staff.

The 3rd and 5th  semester examinations of undergraduate programmes, which were scheduled in the first week of October, were postponed to October last.   The  reason cited was the non-availability of question papers,  especially of the 5th semester.

“Some  leading colleges are distribution and counting centres for the local body elections and they will function normally only from  November 7. Moreover, the date of the 1st semester examination is yet to be announced. This will affect the smooth conduct of  examinations,” Prof Rajan Varghese, former PVC  of  MG University, told DC.

The publication of PG results  has also been delayed exposing the inefficiency of the university.

The third semester results of PG students  who joined the various programmes in 2013 have not been  published fully though the students have already left the colleges after their 4th semester exams in August 2015. The  viva voce is  also over. The results  may not be released even in December.

“The inordinate delays have been  caused by the decision of the university to abandon the split vacation system (November-May) in favour of the annual pattern (April-May) which was introduced in 2009-10. This has adversely affected centralised valuation and finalisation of results,”  added Prof Varghese.

However, sources from the office of the Controller of Examinations of the University said that  though examinations are postponed every year,  the results would be published promptly.
