Hyderabad: A small group of students from the English and Foreign Languages University  met on the varsity campus on Monday to discuss the issue of scrapping of non-NET  scholarship by the University Grants Commission.

They discussed the negative impact the decision might have on students, especially those from weaker economic backgrounds.

A student in the gathering said, “We discussed what would be the larger impact if the government went ahead with its plan of scrapping the non-NET fellowship.”

“Human resource development minister Smriti Irani had posted on Twitter that the fellowships would not be scrapped but there are reports that the fellowships will be awarded on merit basis, which is also not right. We plan to take up combined protests with students from Manuu and UoH at the UGC's office in Hyderabad.”
