Mumbai: When Indian domestic cricketers Manoj Tiwary and Gautam Gambhir nearly came to exchanging blows in a Ranji Trophy match between Bengal and Delhi, Mahendra Singh Dhoni – Team India’s limited-overs skipper – did what few cricketers from the modern era are seen doing. During the final one-dayer against South Africa, he played physio to Faf du Plessis.

Throughout the series, many South African players struggled in the heat and here, in the infamous October heat, du Plessis suffered a cramp after scoring a ton. Even after the handsome hundred, he did not celebrate much. A few overs later, the batsman fell on his back and pulled his hamstring. Seeing his Chennai Super Kings teammate in pain, Dhoni came forward and helped him stretch.

Dhoni held du Plessis’ legs and flexed his feet before the South African team medical staff arrived.

The IPL is not only about money, glamour and controversies, it also creates brotherhood and bonding.
