Kottayam: The Congress and the Kerala Congress (M) have dismissed a number of  rebel candidates contesting against the official nominees in the local body elections in the district.

The KC (M) expelled 27  persons from the primary membership of the party, whereas the Congress  expelled  28, including  two contesting in the Kottayam municipality.

Those expelled include the  rebels in three wards in Athirampuzha  grama panchayat  and  ditrict panchayat divisions,  Mundakkayam, Vaikkom, TV Puram, Ramapuram and Kidangoor, said DCC president Tomy Kallany.

KC(M) district president E.J. Agasthy said that five rebels contesting against the party were expelled, whereas 22 rebels contesting against Congress  candidates in  places such as Pala municipality, Ramapuram  and  Melukavu panchayats,  Uzhavoor,  Kanakary   and  Thalayolaparampu block panchayats, Theekoy and Athirampuzha grama panchayats  were expelled.
