Battery life to improve with the Google’s new Android Marshmallow update
Manufacturers have previously hidden stats regarding hardware battery usage
Mumbai: Google has already started rolling out its latest Android Marshmallow update for a few handsets. As more devices start getting the update, the company is taking necessary steps to increase battery life of handsets with the new update.
The Marshmallow update has numerous exciting features, but one of the most important features is the ‘Doze’ feature—an efficient power saving mode. When a user is not using his phone, the Doze feature automatically switches of heavy applications and background processes to conserve more charge.
Interestingly, Google has made this feature mandatory for all manufacturers who want to ship devices running on Andriod marshmallow 6.0. Additionally, Google has also asked smartphone manufacturers to ‘accurately’ report information on which feature is using how much battery.
Previously, manufacturers have been found to hide battery usage stats regarding their features. However, with the new Android 6.0 update, manufacturers have no choice but to be transparent.
According to Android Police, the company’s documentation has made it clear that “device implementations must be able to track hardware component power usage and attribute that power usage to specific application.”
The mandatory ‘Doze’ mode along with the company’s documentation makes it clear that Google is taking battery life quite seriously with their new marshmallow update unlike previous updates where manufacturers could modify software liberally.
