Uddandarayunipalem: Chief Minister N. Chandrababu Naidu on Wednesday sprinkled water and clay collected from holy places like Manasarovar, Makkah, Jerusalem and other holy places over the 29 villages that form the state capital region to cleanse the area of all evil and invoke divine blessings.

Mr Naidu boarded a helicopter along with Durga temple head priest M. Sivaprasad and minister P. Narayana, carrying a pot filled with the holy water and soil, and sprinkled them over the capital region.

After the ritual, Mr Naidu told the media that Amaravati has become a powerful city and would be safeguarded from all evils.

“Now, no no power can stop establishment of Amaravati as the divine powers will safeguard it,” Mr Naidu said.

He reiterated that his aim was to build a world-class city that would be a new feather in India’s cap.

Refuting the allegations levelled by the Opposition that Rs 400 crore was being spent on the capital foundation stone laying ceremony, he said these were tactics to mislead the people. Mr Naidu said there was enormous response to the e-brick concept.

Turning emotional, he said the circumstances were such that he was unable to invite all the people he wanted to, and appealed to those who were left out to understand and forgive him.

He appealed to all those who he could not invite to attend the foundation stone laying ceremony and share the joy of the state.

Mr Naidu thanked the businessmen, traders and citizens who offered their vehicles and other facilities to make the foundation ceremony a grand success.
