THIRUVANANTHAPURAM: The  UDF has managed to check the rebel menace in the city corporation with some of the rebels withdrawing as the ultimatum issued by the KPCC ended on Tuesday.

DCC president Karakulam Krishna Pillai sacked three rebel Congress candidates who were in the fray after the deadline ended.  

They are  Kunnukuzhi Suresh contesting from Kunnukuzhi ward, Mannammoola Rajesh   from Peroorkada ward and Sudheer Khan  from Vizhinjam ward. 

Mannammoola Rajesh was contesting against his own uncle Mannammolla Rajan. Action against eight more rebels  is  likely  soon.

The DCC leadership may hold talks with the rebels before moving against them, sources said. The names of the rebel candidates would  remain in the ballot papers even if they withdraw.

Around 12 rebels were contesting against the official candidates when the deadline  for withdrawals  ended on Saturday.

However,   DCC member and former Youth Congress district secretary Mudavanmugal Satheesh,  the rebel contesting  against UDF Mayor candidate K. Maheswaran Nair in Mudavanmugal ward,  shas agreed to withdraw.
