Bengaluru: High drama prevailed at the Civil Court in Anekal when six members of a family tried to end their lives by setting themselves ablaze, locked up inside two of their cars. The alleged suicide attempt was the result of a verdict against the family in a civil dispute by the Civil Court on Thursday.

The police however, broke open the glasses of the cars, rescued the family members and also slapped a case against them.

According to the police, there was a civil dispute regarding 1 acre and 28 guntas of land in Kudulu in Sarjapura Hobli between a joint family and one Munikrishna Reddy and others. The civil court granted a verdict in favour of Munikrishna Reddy and others, which disappointed the family members.

They parked the vehicles before the Civil Court complex around 11 am and began preparing to set themselves ablaze inside their cars and had brought cans of kerosene with them, the police said.

Soon they got into their cars, rolled up the windows and locked themselves. When they were about to douse themselves with kerosene, the police noticed and intervened. They broke open the glasses and pulled them outside.

The police later took the six family members into custody and slapped an attempt to suicide case against them. The consulted a magistrate at the civil court before filing the case, a senior police officer said.

The family members alleged that Munikrishna Reddy and others have grabbed their land in Kudlu village in Sarjapura Hobli.
