Kanathil Jameela keen to return, take up unfinished jobs

She first represented Thalakkulathur panchayat ward in the local body elections in 1995

Kozhikode: Kanathil Jameela, who was  Kozhikode district panchayat president  for five years,  is a popular face and a successful administrator who implemented a number of welfare projects.

Jameela through her  women-friendly approach   helped many get  employment  under several schemes, some implemented by the state government and a few that she herself initiated.

“Discussions are still going on about  contesting from my ward --Kuttyadi,” she said.    “But my mission is to implement more development projects  not yet complete,” she added.  

She  first represented  Thalakkulathur panchayat ward in the local body elections in 1995.    She  was  standing committee chairperson, welfare, Thalakkulathur panchayat, from 2000 to 2005, block panchayat president, Chelannur, from 2005 to 2010 and  district panchayat   president from 2010 to 2015.

Some of the  popular initiatives of Jameela include, Snehasparsham,  (financial aid to the kidney patients), mission mode project to make the state zero- landless, special project  for cancer detection among women, Kozhikode Animal Rehabilitation Project using Non- Violent Alternatives (KARUNA) to end stray dog menace, sports promotion and education empowerment by the  district panchayat.  

“Unfortunately we could not implement more projects due to the paucity of funds,”  said Jameela.
