Visakhapatnam: In a letter to the media, TD leaders who were abducted said that their fate was in the hands of the government. Rural SP Koya Praveen denied that the leaders had been abducted. “The leaders had gone to the Maoists’ meeting at Gondipalle on Monday following a call from the rebels and they haven’t returned so far,” he said.
The fate of the three leaders is not known yet. With rumours floating about the imminent foundation stone-laying ceremony for bauxite mining, a series of protests have erupted in the Agency area.
TS naxals kidnap six villagers; cops deny it
Maoists allegedly kidnapped six persons in Uyyalamadaugu in Charla mandal early on Tuesday, though police refused to confirm the incident. Sources said a 15-strong Maoist unit descended on the village and asked six persons — P. Muthaiah, N. Rajasekhar, M. Kannarao, S. Venkateswara Rao, M. Sarveswara Rao and C. Ramesh — to come to the forests with them.
The villagers came to their rescue, saying they had done no wrong. The Maoists replied that they needed to question the six persons, and offered to take some locals along with them, They seized the cellphones of the six persons and led them away. It is suspected that Venkatapuram area committee headed by Lachanna is behind the kidnap.
