Bengaluru: A 15-year-old girl committed suicide after leaving a death note saying that she was taking the extreme step after being stripped and photographed by four youths. The police have arrested two. Her family members have also alleged police negligence, saying the cops did not take up their case on Saturday.
The deceased, Sangeeta, was a ninth standard student in the government high school in Chikkajala. She was the daughter of Kalayyappa, a stone cutter, and Jayalakshmi. The family was living at Vidyanagar Cross near Subhashnagar in Chikkajala. The police have arrested Krishnamurthy and Mohan, both from Subhashnagar.
Sangeeta was found hanging in her house on Monday, and the incident came to light when her father returned home from work. The girl has left a death note stating that Krishnamurthy, Mohan’s mother, and his friends are the reason behind her suicide. She has alleged that Krishnamurthy, Mohan and two of their friends dragged her to a place, where they allegedly stripped her and took her photographs.
The police say that the girl’s father, his brother Murugan, relatives Bettamma and Ishwari were quarreling over old enmity and they were brought to the police station. Meanwhile, Sangeeta came to the station and alleged that Bettamma’s son Krishnamurthy and Ishwari’s son Mohan had assaulted her. After registering a non-cognisable case, they were pacified and sent.
But Sangeeta’s uncle Basavalingaiah alleged that the police did not file a complaint when the girl told them that she was stripped and photographed by the accused. “After we approached the police, the family members of the accused picked up a quarrel with us again. The girl then ended her life,” he alleged.
DCP, Northeast division, Vikas Kumar Vikas, said he has asked ACP of Devanahalli sub-division to submit a report by Wednesday. “Action will be taken based on the report. The search is on for the other two accused,” he said.
The girl has written in her suicide note: “They (the accused) will say this is not my hand writing but I have written this.” The police, however, are skeptical. “It is highly suspicious that a 15-year-old could write it in the death note,” an official said.
