Hyderabad: Day care centers for senior citizens are a boon as not only do they help them mix with people of their own age-groups but they also give them a chance to engage in indoor games, yoga, read books, newspapers etc.

With 75 centers established by GHMC, 40 of them are very active and the model among them is the day care center at A.S. Rao Nagar, with 1,000 registered members. Fifty members come here in the mornings and evenings.

Mrinal Lankapalli of Helpage India said, “The A.S. Rao Nagar center is a model center for the city which has shown that proper guidance and active leadership can make a center vibrant and enthusiastic. There are workshops on art and craft  and there is a regular schedule of activities which keeps them all active and busy.”

The center also arranges picnics, get-togethers and events which have proven to be a big boon. Day care centers are also a big help for caregivers and family members.

The other centers like Kukatpally, Saifabad, Malkajgiri and Secunderabad are also very active and have good participation.
