Hyderabad: YSR Congress on Saturday said its chief Y S Jagan Mohan Reddy would go on an indefinite fast of at Guntur from October 7 to mount pressure on Centre for granting special status to the state.

"The decision to this effect was taken at a high level meeting and we will suggest alternative venue to the officials, if the present venue is not approved," YSRC leader Botsa Satyanarayana said.

Reddy planned to hold the fast in Guntur from Saturday, but the administration denied permission for it. "The officials have said that the venue is not suitable for the indefinite fast and our party delegation will be meeting them showing alternative venues for approval as our interest is the development of the state which can be attained only through special status," Satyanarayana said.
