THIRUVANANTHAPURAM: Considering the increasing response of pilgrims to the virtual queue system for Sabarimala darshan, the state police will  enhance  the facility for the coming pilgrimage season from November 17 to January 20. Bookings for the virtual queue will be open from October 17.

Introduced by the state police in 2011, over the last four years,  48 lakh pilgrims have availed of the facility that helps pilgrims avoid standing  in queues for a long time.  “Our long-term vision is to make Sabarimala darshan  totally digitally managed through the virtual queue in the years to come,” ADGP south-zone K. Padmakumar said in a statement.

“We plan to increase the number of token verification counters from four to six. More gadgets like scanners and metal detectors will be provided and more policemen will be deployed at the entry points so that the waiting time of pilgrims for token verification could be reduced,” said Thiruvananthapuram-range IG  Manoj Abraham.
