Traffic cop canes girl riding pillion at Karikkode
The Kilikolloor police registered a case against the erring officer
KOLLAM: An 11-year-old girl, who was pillion-riding with her father, faced the wrath of a Motor Vehicles inspector at Karikkode on Wednesday following which tension prevailed in the area.
Inspector A.V. Suresh Kumar, who was allegedly drunk, caned the girl on her back when her father parked the vehicle a little away from the spot where the officials were checking the vehicles.
Aleesha, daughter of Shemeer of Shan Manzil, Kuzhiyam, Chandanathoppe, a student of TKM Public School here, was taken to the district hospital. Kollam RTO visited the child at the hospital to give a report to the District Collector on the incident.
The locals who gathered at the spot seeing the girl crying protested against the officers’ action and blocked the Kollam-Kottarakkara road. The people alleged that they were intoxicated and demanded action against them.
Earlier, the same officers had allegedly demanded Rs 2,000 from Babukkuttan of Idavettam for riding without helmet while taking his daughter to the school. They allegedly seized the RC book and Babukkuttan was forced to pledge his daughter’s ear rings to pay the penalty, which was also not acknowledged with a receipt.
The Kilikolloor police registered a case against the erring officer. He was also taken for an alcohol test at the district hospital.
“The doctor at the hospital maintained that the officer was not intoxicated. However, his blood sample has been sent to the forensic lab for further tests.
A case has been registered against the culprit based on the statement given by the student,” Kilikolloor SI V. Prasad told DC.
The public had earlier demanded a stop to vehicle- checking at Karikkode, a permanent checking spot of the department.
