KOZHIKODE: The employees of textile shops face gruelling working conditions because they have to stand in showrooms all the time.

But a leading textile shop in the city  has given top priority to the health of its employees and launched a unique scheme of physical and  mental fitness.

The  Kalyan Kendra provides its employees classes on meditation, strengthening mind power and  other recreational activities one hour  before the  start of the work.

There  is an aerobics class for over 100 employees  under the guidance of noted aerobics trainer Abdul Majeed.

“These ladies and young men are doing the aerobics steps much better than anyone else,” Majeed said.   Such classes  promote behavioural changes among them and improve their health and  quality of life.

The classes are from 9.30 a.m. to 10.30 a.m. after which the employees  go to their work.

“The health of  our employees is very important. Soon we will start sessions on yoga,” said  general manager of Kalyan Kendra, K. Santhosh Kumar.

According to Asanghatitha Meghala Thozhilali Union (AMTU) activist P. Viji, such an initiative will  set  an example to  other textile shops also and  bring  up a friendly atmosphere for the employees.
