KASARGOD: The Kasargod police have identified the four robbers who looted 21 kg gold ornaments and Rs 13 lakh from  the Kudlu Service Cooperative Bank here on Monday.

The robbers were local gang members, who have left Kasargod after the robbery. They would be arrested soon, said Kasargod deputy SP T.P. Ranjith.

The police on Thursday recovered a gold chain, which had fallen off the fleeing gangsters, from near the bank.

“The robbers  seemed to have escaped from Kasargod and we are trying to trace them,” Mr Ranjith said.

A local person,  who was taken into custody on suspicion of helping the gangsters,  reportedly gave the details about them.

The police  also received a call from an unidentified  person who demanded money to provide information on the  gang.

The investigation team released the sketch of one of the robbers  based on the inputs provided by a person  who had seen the  gang coming to the bank on two-wheelers.

The probe team is also looking into  the involvement of bank employees in the robbery.

“Once we catch the robbers we will check this angle as well.  Without local help they could not have carried out such a daring robbery in broad daylight,”  Mr  Ranjith said.
