Hyderabad: Chief Minister K. Chandrasekhar Rao has sought the support of the New Development Bank for funding urban development projects including energy from waste, irrigation and other sectors.

Mr Rao, who had a 40-minute meeting with bank president K.V. Kamath and vice-president Xian Zhu made this request at a meeting on Thursday.

The bank is in the process of formulating funding policies. They focus on infrastructure development in developing countries.

“It was a very interesting meeting. The CM sought their help in funding urban development projects, including waste to energy, irrigation etc. They responded positively, a government spokesman said.

Earlier, the CM’s entourage left Dalian after attending the World Economic Forum meeting and reached Shanghai, on China’s central coast, which is the country’s biggest city and a global financial hub.

Shanghai’s heart is the Bund, a famed waterfront walkway lined with colonial-era buildings. The CM and his delegation took the Maglev high speed train which travels at 300 kmph, from the airport to the city.

The CM, who met industrialists, explained to them the government’s new industrial policy, investment opportunities in Telangana, single window system of clearing proposals in two weeks, no power cuts and other benefits and requested them to invest in the state.
