Taking baby steps into the television industry, these stars have now etched their own presence in the filmi business

Bollywood superstar Shah Rukh Khan, Golden Star Ganesh, Rocking Star Yash and a few other Sandalwood stars have one thing in common — they all started their career on the small screen. Amidst the present age TRP-driven scenario, even the small screen has witnessed a sea change in the way TV soaps and shows are produced and promoted. A lead role in a popular TV soap is no less than a silver screen appearance. This growing trend has given rise to popular actors reaching for more filmi opportunities while banking on their small screen popularity. Though not all of them succeed instantly, they keep coming back to taste bigger successes.
VIJAY SURIYA
Known for his small screen venture Agnisakshi, this actor made it big with Dr Nagathihalli Chandrashekar’s upcoming venture Istakamiya. He is paired opposite Kavya Shetty. Nagathihalli Chandrashekar has earlier given us classic hits like America America.
CHANDAN
After a mechanical engineering degree, he took up a job at General Motors. He later quit the job to change his profession. A reality show led to his small screen debut Lakshmi Baramma. Unlike others in his league, he decided to quit the small screen to concentrate on movies. His first two releases Katte and Eradondla Mooru did average at the box office. He has now bagged the big one with Indrajit Lankesh’s upcoming release Love U Alia starring Crazy Star Ravichandran and Bhumika Chawla. He also features in Bengaluru-23.
JAYARAM KARTHIK alias JK
Though, his fans have seen his debut on the big screen in supporting roles, Karthik rose to stardom with Ashwini Nakshatra — portraying the role of a movie star on the small screen, for which he is popularly known as JK. He made his debut as a hero on the big screen through Just Love which did not fare well at the box office. He is set to return with a couple of films lined up for release — Chandrika paired opposite Kamna Jethmalani and Bengaluru-23.
CHIKKANNA
Amongst the present lot, this particular comedian has garnered much acclaim. While working as a TV show host, he was identified by Yash, who gave him a break in his film Kirataka, and thereafter his popularity has doubled, and he is now the best in the business.
