Mumbai: Soon after taking over as the Mumbai police commissioner, Ahmed Javed said that the investigation into the Sheena Bora murder case would be done in a professional manner. When he was asked whether he would be investigating it personally, Mr Javed said, “Any case that is important would be monitored in a professional manner.”

Mr Javed, who is from the 1980 batch, was appointed as Mumbai police commissioner on Tuesday afternoon after Rakesh Maria was promoted as a director general, home guard. CM Devendra Fadnavis had cleared both appointments before he left for Japan last night.

Speaking about asked about the fate of the ongoing Sheena Bora murder case investigation, Mr Javed said all investigations are important, not only this particular one. “It is collective work so if needed I will look after it as and when it is necessary. The same team will go ahead. They have done the interrogation. Now our main aim is to collect witnesses and evidence to make case stronger,” he said.

Mr Javed took charge as police commissioner around 12:30 pm. Mr Maria was with him just for five minutes and after he handover all the charges to Mr Javed, he left without talking to anyone.

Mr Javed said that “improving policing” would be high on his agenda. According to him, policing should have positive impact on society. “My first priority will be to improve police vigils so that people feel safe. Ensuring the safety of women and children in particular is very important in that. Cyber cell protection is also one of the challenges and we will look after to develop it. We will take every precaution and action to control terrorism,” he said.
