Several injured as students, cop clash at Mukkam IHRD
Police said the student activists pelted stones at the policemen and tried to attack them
KOZHIKODE: Police and SFI activists clashed at the Institute of Human Resources Development at Mukkam on Monday, leaving several students and policemen injured.
The SFI activists were demanding revocation of the suspension of a student, who was suspended for not wearing a uniform to college.
Police said they had gone to the college on the basis of a complaint by the principal of the institute that SFI activists had locked the gate and were not allowing other students to enter the campus.
Police said the student activists pelted stones at the policemen and tried to attack them. They had to use force to disperse the violent student activists. Three policemen and several students were injured in the clash. Police have arrested two SFI activists.
SFI had been on strike at the institute demanding that college authorities revoke the suspension of a fellow student. SFI activists said that the action of the college authorities were unwarranted.
