PM must resolve Mahadayi dispute: M B Patil

Belagavi: Following the unfruitful meeting of an all-party delegation from Karnataka with Prime Minister Narendra Modi on the Mahadayi project, Water Resources Minister M.B. Patil said Mr Modi should resolve the inter-state water dispute similar to the way former PMs Indira Gandhi and Atal Bihari Vajpayee worked out effective measures to resolve major water disputes.
 
At a press conference in Vijaypur, Mr Patil said the Mahadayi water dispute could be resolved amicably outside the purview of Mahadayi Water Tribunal in case Mr Modi intervenes. The all-party delegation did not get a suitable response from the PM when it met him recently. ''Instead of asking the delegation to set stage for a meeting of CMs of the three states to resolve the issue, the PM acted more like president of BJP than PM by neglecting the delegation's appeal,'' he said.
