New Delhi: Following Prime Minister Narendra Modi’s reassurances on one rank, one pension on Sunday, that it would cover those who had to leave the armed forces prematurely, ex-servicemen called off their fast unto death at Jantar Mantar on Sunday afternoon but decided to continue their protests till all their demands were met.

Veterans’ pride rally on September 12

Agitating ex-servicemen on Sunday decided to continue with their protests, including the relay hungerstrike, till all their demands regarding OROP were met by the government. The ex-servicemen say they will hold a massive “solidarity rally” at Jantar Mantar on September 12.

There was some cheers in the afternoon when those ex-servicemen who were on a fast unto death finally broke their fast, saying they were happy with the assurances furnished by the Prime Minister. Major Gen. Singh (Retd) said, “We have called off the hunger strike but protests will continue till all our major demands are met,” he said declaring the date of the pride rally.
