Eerie photos of deserted Chinese amusement parks are both creepy and serene

Italian photographer Stefano Cerio has travelled all over China – from Happy Valley to Amazing World and Treasure Island Pirate Kingdom – to catch pleasure playgrounds in the off season. (Photo Credit: Stefano Cerio)
While photographers are mostly tempted to capture luridly colourful, concrete and plastic forms; for Stefano Cerio, the empty spaces were much more interesting.
The pictures depict a very different side of Chinese amusement parks. Gone are the happy masses and queues. People park in Shanghai is captured devoid of a single person.
This is the Polar Ocean Park in Qingdao, which is an empty theater at a beachside amusement park. Cerio scouted promising locations with the help of Google Earth.
Happy Valley Shanghai seen out of season, perhaps a place that usually offers escape from everyday life - appears strange and even senseless.
Shanghai Happy Valley is a theme park that spans 213 acres and is roughly an hour's drive from Shanghai.
This rollercoaster found at the Xiedao Holiday Village theme park has an eerie backdrop against the surrounding residential blocks.

 Summer paddle boats are huddled up together forming a small island in the middle of the lake. Cerio captures the Tuanjiehu Park in Beijing suspended in time and space.
This haunting image is of Water Cube in Beijing.
He traveled to cities like Beijing, Shanghai, Qingdao and Hong Kong. Cerio has captured the moments in-between the madness as the parks lay dormant. Shinjing Park in Beijing opened in mid-80s came under fire in 2007 for copyright violations.
