University student drives around in Barbie jeep after driving licence gets cancelled

When Tara Monroe had her driving license suspended after she refused a breathalyser test during a traffic stop, she did not give up driving. However, instead of hopping on a bike to get to university, she opted for a different ride – a bright pink, plastic, battery-powered Barbie Jeep.

The 20-year-old industrial engineering student found the Barbie Jeep on Craigslist for just $60. Although she has to frequently charge it up and its top speed is just 5mph, Monroe is totally in love with her new vehicle – which she has named Charlene.

With a petite frame of just 5ft 3in, she can manage to squeeze in the toy jeep. She opted for this unusual choice of ride because “riding a bike around campus sucks”, according to the San Antonio Express-News.
