Hyderabad: A 48-year-old farmer committed suicide allegedly due to crop failure and mounting debts by hanging himself from the roof at his home. According to the police, Nedunuri Ganesh Reddy, a native of Amdapur village in Moinabad mandal of Ranga Reddy district, owned agricultural land, which he had sold a few years ago for his elder daughter’s marriage. Recently he had taken some land in the village on lease and sowed cotton. But the crop failed due to lack of rain.

Meanwhile, his debts on the crop became a burden for him and his younger daughter Deepika reached marriage age. On Saturday night, he had an argument with his wife over the debts and Deepika’s marriage plans. His brother, Buchi Reddy, who lives next door, said that they would discuss the issue in the morning. His mother Ramulamma, wife Varalakshmi and Deepika slept in one room while he slept in the other.

“Around 1.30 am, Ramulamma heard a noise from inside and she saw Ganesh hanging from the roof with a sari. When they brought down, he was breathing. But later, the ambulance staff declared him dead,” said Moinabad SI Sanjeev.
