COIMBATORE: Jute garments, pure cotton materials, herbal products, wooden toys and handmade ornaments made by 50 entrepreneurs are on display at the Kovai Utsav.

The exhibition-cum-sale is on till September 1, from 11 am to 8 pm at Savitha Hall on D.B. Road in R.S. Puram.

The manufacturers are from different parts of Tamil Nadu.  Besides an entrepreneur from Bihar, Abubakar has brought his handmade delicate linen silk, jute silk and tussar cotton dupattas, scarves and salwar dress material.

“This is the first time I am taking part at Kovai Utsav. I am expecting a good sale in the weekends, because these kinds of materials have good demand in the market. Moreover, we are selling at manufacturing price.”

Organised by the small industries product promotion organisation (SI PPCO) limited, and promoted by the Small Industries Corporation of India and the Tamil Nadu small industries development corporation limited, the exhibition aims to encourage entrepreneurs.

“We have been offering training to craftsmen and handloom weavers.  This exhibition is the platform for them to sell what they have manufactured. Moreover, the manufacturers are selling their products at a very competitive price to customers,” said K. Palanivelmurugan, general manager of Small Industries Product Promotion Ltd.

The exhibition is organised in association with National Jute Board, National Bank for Agriculture and Rural Development and the Tamil Nadu Khadi Village Industries Board.
