KANNUR: CPM politburo member Pinarayi Vijayan has come down heavily on the government move to allow the  police to enter college campuses.

“If the police are  given a free-hand on the campus, it would have serious repercussions,”  he warned. He was speaking at a programme organized by a local club at Chirakuni, Dharmadam,  Thalasserry.

“The CPM cannot approve of such a decision. There are many living martyrs of police atrocities on campuses. Many student leaders were paralysed due to police excesses. It was in that context that a rule was introduced to get the principal’s permission for the police  to enter campuses,” he reminded.

Students should ensure that the celebrations do not cross the limits. “The tragic death of a student at CET college was most unfortunate,”  he said.
