South Africa A player S Van Zyl bats against India A during their test match at Krishnagiri Cricket Stadium in Wayanad.
WayanadIndia ‘A’ spinners performed much better than they did in the first match to restrict South Africa ‘A’ for 260 runs on the opening day of the second unofficial Test match at Krishnagiri Stadium here on Tuesday. They extracted turn and produced variations to tie the visiting side in knots.

Left-arm orthodox bowler Axar Patel had a five-wicket haul while off-spinner Jayant Yadav (3/53) and Karn Sharma cleaned up the rest, preventing South Africa ‘A’ from repeating their opening day onslaught of the first match. The hosts struck at regular intervals. Opener Stiaan Van Zyl (96) was the only player to offer resistance to the Indian spinners, who operated throughout the day. The match started with a sluggish run rate and the highlight of the opening 10 overs was a krait baby snake that slithered on to the field, which was spotted by Jiwanjot Singh at square leg. The venomous intruder found a saviour in Rahul Dravid, who asked the ground staff to let it free.

South Africa ‘A’  260 in 89.5 overs (S. van Zyl 96, O. Ramela 30, Axar 5/92, Yadav 3/53, Karn 2/36) vs India ‘A’
