Thiruvananthapuram: Education Minister P K Abdu Rabb has asked directorate of technical education K. Vijayakumar to submit a report on the increasing incidents of indiscipline in engineering colleges in the state.

The report was sought following the recent incidents of indiscipline in College of Engineering, Trivandrum (CET) and the IHRD engineering College, Adoor.

In CET, Tasni Basheer, a third year civil engineering student of the college died as she was walking to the hostel when a jeep carrying at least 15 student revelers went out of control and hit her.

It may be recalled that in 2002, vehicles were ban-ned on the CET campus after a student lost her life in a freak accident.

During the Onam celebrations at IHRD, Adoor, students splashed water from a tanker of fire and rescue services and danced on the road.

They also used a crane, tractor, lorry and an open jeep for their procession. The students also boarded a KSRTC bus causing disturbance to the passengers.

The Onam celebrations at IHRD, Adoor had caus-ed controversy as it was organised soon after the tragic incident in CET.

The two incidents has now forced the government to think of imposing stricter norms for controlling indiscipline in campuses.
