MumbaiHaving faltered at the final hurdle in the maiden edition of the Pro Kabaddi League last year, hosts U Mumba ensured there was no heartbreak the second time around with a thrilling 36-30 win over Bengaluru Bulls in the final here on Sunday.

It was always going to be a steep climb for the visitors after U Mumba had raced to an eight-point lead at half-time (16-18).  The Bulls, who came out strongly initially, lost the plot towards the end with their captain making a grave error in judgement.

Unlike the set pattern where Kumar often gets the raid points to put U Mumba in front, it was their powerful defence that kept the Bulls in check. Such was their dominance that both Ajay Thakur and Chillar did not have a single raid point in the first 20 minutes of play.

Earlier, losing semifinalists Telugu Titans beat Patna Pirates 34-26 to finish third in the league. Though the Titans were weak in defence, they sealed the game thanks to their better raiding skills. The Titans received a cheque for Rs 30 lakh while the Pirates pocketed Rs 20 lakh.
