Hyderabad: An MS student carrying a live bullet was apprehended by security officials at the Rajiv Gandhi International Airport. Officials found the bullet at the bottom of his baggage when he was about to board a Chicago-bound flight. Police identified the student as Avinash, 22, a native of Khammam district.

Police said Avinash is doing second year Masters in Computers at Chicago University.

He finished first year and came home for vacation in July. While he was returning Chicago on Wednesday he was caught with the live bullet.

The bullet was less than the size of a 9 mm pistol bullet.

“He came to India in July. He was using his friend’s bag. The bullet was found at the bottom of the bag. It was not detected when he landed in July, but it was found on Wednesday, when he was leaving,” said RGI Airport inspector T. Sudhakar.

Police are verifying the student’s identity and college documents.

“We are verifying his University documents. If they are found genuine we will let him go on personal surety,” added the inspector.
