WayanadIndia ‘A’ did little to feel proud about on day one as South Africa ‘A’ batsmen dictated terms on a flat wicket in the first four-day match here on Tuesday. Riding on a splendid 112 from Omphile Ramela, the visitors posted 293 for 4 at close.

The green patches on the wicket looked like camouflage as the fast bowlers found it hard to do anything productive in their opening spell and India captain Ambati Rayudu was forced to bring spinners early on. But until the 18th over, South African openers Reeza Hendricks (50) and Stiaan Van Zyl thwarted all the attempts of the hosts for a breakthrough.

Introduction of off-spinner Jayant Yadav gave India ‘A’ a ray of hope  — Stiaan Van Zyl was caught at cover in his second over — but Hendricks had already scored 50.

Brief scores
South Africa ‘A’ 293/4 in 68 overs (O. Ramela 112, T. Bavuma 55, R. Hendricks 50, Patel 2/52, Pandey 1/56, Yadav 1/88) vs India ‘A’
