Drunkard tries to sell baby boy

The police are yet to ascertain whether the man is the real father of the baby

VijayawadaA drunkard’s attempt to sell a  baby boy at Vijayawada Railway Station was foiled by sanitation workers who alerted cops and child welfare department officials on Monday morning.
 
According to sources, a man influenced by alcohol in early hours was offering the months-old baby to onlookers for Rs 3, 000 on a platform at the Vijayawada railway station. When the sanitation workers in the railway station spotted the drunkard with the baby and questioned him, he did not respond properly. 
 
The workers alerted Government Railway Police who in turn alerted the Women Development and Child Welfare officials. Later, the baby was taken to government general hospital in the city  by the child welfare officials.The baby would be shifted to government run child care home, police officials informed. Meanwhile the police, who nabbed the accused, are questioning him. 
 
However, police said that they are yet to find out whether the man is the real father of the baby boy and if he was really attempting to sell him. A case has been registered against the accused and the  investigation is on.
