Hyderabad: Owners can avoid fire mishaps in their vehicles by taking a few extra precautions.

Automobile engineers say that owners should avoid fitting high-power consuming accessories. They also suggest fire extinguishers and other safety measures in vehicles.

Doing regular vehicle servicing and repair works from authorised centres is a must for every owner to ensure the fitness of vehicle and there by avoiding any accidental fire in the vehicle.

“Ill maintained vehicles are moving explosives. Even ignoring small scratches on oil or fuel tanks can result in tragedy,” said an auto mobile engineer from Kondapur, Mr N. Mahesh.

In order to keep a tab on the regular defects of vehicles, owners need to just check the default meters in the vehicle. “Most vehicles now have meters that detect the engine temperature. When it’s over heated, the owner should stop the vehicle. One should not try to drive before taking the necessary steps to cool it down. He either should refill the coolant, or call a mechanic for help before starting the car,” said Mr Mahesh.

Even if one wants to fit extra accessories, it should be done in a safe way. When the extra accessories are installed, the mechanic should be extra careful. Instead of cutting and insulating the wiring system, sockets should be used.

Apt tools should be used so that the wiring system doesn’t get torn, a mechanic said.
