Essentially, Alphabet has been formed as a parent company to overlook the working of Google’s various subsidiaries. The companies that come under Alphabet’s umbrella are as follows: 
 Calico is short for California Life Company, which aims to study
Google X, which is now known as Lab X, was earlier headed by the new Google CEO Sundar Pichai. It is another Alphabet subsidiary that delivered products like drones, wifi-emitting balloons, Google Glass et al
Another side project under Alphabet is Sidewalk Labs, which uses technology and design to improve city life
Nest is Alphabet’s smart home business, which has made the Nest Thermostat, he Nest Protect smoke and carbon monoxide detector, and the Nest Cam webcam
Google Venture is another investing arm of Alphabet, that invests in new companies that it believes can make people's lives better
Google Fibre, that shook the broadband industry offers, high-speed Internet service (40 times faster than most home internet service)
Google Capital, is one of Alphabet’s investing arm, which primarily focuses on longer-term bets
