Jayalalithaa orders Rs 10 lakh to kin of Dornier crew

ChennaiOffering her condolences, Chief Minister, J. Jayalalithaa  on Monday announced an ex-gratia of Rs 10 lakh to each of the families of the three member crew of the Dornier Aircraft which went missing on the night of June 8.
 
In a statement, she said “ It is with great grief that I learnt of the confirmation of the death of the three brave young officers of the Indian Coast  Guard whose mortal remains were found along with the wreckage of the Dornier aircraft. These brave officers were killed while on duty. My heart goes out to the families of the three young  officers who lost their lives.  I offer my deepest condolences to the families in their moment of grief. Meanwhile, I have ordered an ex-gratia payment of 
Rs 
10 lakh to each of the families of the three officers.

“The Indian Coast Guard has been the partners of the Government of Tamil Nadu, and of the Tamil Nadu police in  particular, in guarding and protecting the coastal areas of the state. Their personnel have helped in innumerable rescue and  relief operations and saved the lives of several fishermen from the 
state,” the release added.
 
Meanwhile, the wreath laying ceremony and paying of last respects to the deceased aircrew of Coast Guard Dornier CG-791  which crashed into sea  is planned at  Coast Guard Air Station, Rudra Road, St Thomas Mount  (Near Officers Training Academy) on August 11 at 3.30 pm.
 
It may be recalled that the three-member crew of a Coast Guard Dornier surveillance aircraft had gone missing off the   coast of Tamil Nadu on the night of 08 Jun 2015. 
 
A marathon 36-day search by the Indian Coast Guard resulted in the findings of human remains from the bottom of the sea. DNA tests of the remains were then carried out at the Tamil Nadu Forensic laboratory, which finally confirmed that the remains did belong to the crew members of the plane.
