Help bring Tamil Nadu fisherman’s body killed in Bahrain: Jayalalithaa to PM

Fisherman had reportedly left the fishing base of Qatar in the early hours of August 6 after being shot

ChennaiChief Minister J. Jayalalithaa on Monday urged Prime Minister Narendra Modi to help in bringing home the body of a Tamil Nadu fisherman killed in Bahrain international waters by pirates. 
 
In a letter to the PM, she said that Antony Arul Anish from Kanyakumari, working as a contract labourer in a fishing company based at Qatar, was shot dead by sea pirates while fishing along with five other fishermen.
 
The fisherman had reportedly left the fishing base of Qatar in the early hours of August 6 After being shot,  the Bahrain Coast Guard airlifted the injured fisherman to a Bahrain hospital, where he succumbed to injuries. His body was now reportedly kept at a hospital in Bahrain, she said. 
 
“The fisherman who had gone to Qatar as a fishing labourer on contract was eking out his meagre livelihood to support his family in India. The family of the deceased fisherman is traumatised by the loss of their sole bread winner and seeks the early return of his body. I request you to direct the Indian Embassy at Bahrain and Qatar to take urgent steps to arrange for the transportation of the body of the deceased fisherman at the earliest,” the letter added. Jayalalithaa also announced Rs 5 lakh compensation to the family.
