12-year-old elephant dies in Krishnagiri

It is the 14th elephant to die in the last three years in the Krishnagiri forest due to illness

A 12-year-old female elephant suffering from severe abdominal pain died on Monday afternoon without responding to treatment given by forest veterinarians.

“Though we tried to save the elephant, the animal died on Monday” A. Arunachalam, Anchetti forest range officer told Deccan Chronicle. 
 
It is the 14th elephant to die in the last three years in the Krishnagiri forest due to illness. While two died of suspected anthrax, others died of drinking murky pond water, electrocution and in train and road 
accidents. 
 
On Sunday, the Krishnagiri forest officials spotted an elephant writhing in pain  close to the Mittaran Kottai, a forest fringe village, in the Anchetti forest range of the Denkannikottai taluk in Kirshnagiri.
