THIRUVANANTHAPURAM: The additional district magistrate along with petitioner Biju Ramesh will carry out a joint inspection on Park Rajadhani on Monday.

Sub-collector S. Karthi-keyan said three hearings were held already with Mr Ramesh, who is the owner of the beer and wine parlour.

“The petitioner along with the ADM will inspect the structure on Monday. A hearing has been scheduled after that and a final decision would be taken tomorrow,” said Mr Karthikeyan.
Park Rajadhani is the only critical encroachment standing over the decades-old Thekkanamkara canal.

The encroachment was exposed by the revenue authorities following the launch of Operation Anantha aimed at ending the recurring flooding in the Thampanoor and East Fort regions by restoring the age old drainage scheme.

Hundreds of structures were knocked down as part of it. However, the hotelier approached the HC and managed to get a stay and the district administration, despite invoking the power Disaster Management Act, couldn’t touch the structure.

ADM V.R. Vinod said the district administration had enough evidence to prove that Mr Ramesh had encroached government purampokku land and constructed the structure over the canal.
