Thiruvananthapuram Residents demand more traffic lights
The representatives of KSRTC employees from Thampanoor demanded strict action on public smokers here
THIRUVANANTHAPURAM: The monthly Maithri meeting with citizens organised by the city police at AR Camp, Nandavanam, revolved around the need to increase the number of traffic signals and rationalise the timing of existing signals.
The meeting held on Saturday was attended by officials of various government departments, city corporation and representatives of residents’ associations.
The police, based on inputs from citizens, will explore the feasibility of having more public announcements at arterial locations like Kowdiar and Palayam.
Presently, the control room can give warnings to citizens in East Fort, Pettah area after monitoring traffic through CCTV.
“The stretch between Mukkola and Pulingudi has become too dangerous with continuous accidents. The police should try installing signal lamps there,” said Pankajakshan of Mulloor.
On similar lines, Solomon of GGRA, Vanchiyoor, opined that a traffic signal is needed near Pettah market.
“With a new flyover opening here, the already saturated junction requires over two policemen at a time and more signal lamps need to be provided here,” he said.
The representatives of KSRTC employees from Thampanoor demanded strict action on public smokers here. Also, police help has been sought to prevent bus passengers from abruptly getting down at signals.
Meanwhile, the city police commissioner H. Venkatesh has appealed the interested citizens to consult with the local police station and be part of neighbourhood watch night patrolling as thefts are expected to increase during Onam.
