Hyderabad: A teacher, Mr Eldo from Kerala, gave preliminary information about the kidnap in the initial days. “However, now his phone is not reachable. I think he has left Libya and gone to Tunisia to get back to India,” Professor Ch. Balram Kishan’s wife Sridevi said.

“I have not been able to sleep properly since last week. I have to make sure both my kids are fine. I am trying my best to stay positive. I am sure my husband will return soon,” said Ms Sridevi.

Relatives of the teachers continued their efforts by contacting the ministry of external affairs and the Indian embassy in Tripoli. They are also constantly monitoring news channels to know the latest developments.

The family members had also met ministers from both the Central and state governments, seeking help.

The rescue efforts were held up due to fighting in Libya between the pro-Muammar Gaddafi faction and IS militants.

Officials are waiting for the situation to normalise somewhat before going ahead with the rescue mission, said sources.

The two Telugu teachers were kidnapped by IS militants in Libya.
