Karthika Nair, who was last seen in Purampokku in a new avatar, has donned a different one again — this time, off screen. The actress is spearheading a campaign titled ‘Operation Helmet’ in her home town Trivandrum. The actress says this has come in the wake of an alarming number of death due to road accidents.

She says, “There were many reasons which prompted me to take up the initiative. A few of my relatives passed away in two-wheeler accidents and a couple of my staff members too met with similar fate. So, this is a public as well as a private affair for me. More over, it is my dad’s company which pitched this idea.”

Karthika says there are 36 people working for the cause — distributing pamphlets and awareness cards, which are signed by the police department. “The team is divided into six with six members each promoting the cause at busy junctions in the town. We will be actively involved in it for the next two weeks. I will be happy if we are able to make at least one person wear a helmet as a result of our efforts.”
