New Delhi: Union finance minister Arun Jaitley on Sunday accused Congress of adopting an “obstructionist attitude” in blocking the  GST Bill and said that the objections raised by the party did not find favour with the two previous UPA finance ministers — P. Chidambaram and Pranab Mukherjee.

“The Congress party should accept and seriously introspect after having ruled the country for the longest period of time, that negativism hurts the country. Should its obstructionist tendencies inflict an economic injury on the country?,” Mr Jaitley worte in a social media post.

He pointed out that the proposal for introduction of GST was first mooted by Mr Chidambaram in his budget speech 2006-07 and the 115th Constitution Amendment Bill 2011 was introduced by Mr Mukherjee, the then finance minister.

Also, the changes suggested by the Empowered Committee and the Standing Committee were accepted by the UPA Government, he added.
