Thiruvananthapuram: Political circles are watching with interest  SNDP Yogam general secretary Vellapally Natesan’s move for a tie-up with the BJP in the forthcoming local bodies elections and the next year’s Assembly poll.

He has always remained in touch with top BJP leaders, including L. K. Advani.  Short of launching a party, Mr Natesan aims at transforming the Ezhava community into a social pressure group.

The BJP, which is trying to open its account in the Assembly, also wants the help of a pressure group like SNDP Yogam. Mr Natesan told DC that he had always  demanded  political protection  for  Ezhavas.

“The SNDP Yogam will not form a political party, but we plan to form an alliance with likeminded suppressed communities,”  he said.

Mr Natesan’s son Tushar Vellapally said that he would not contest an election though the SNDP Yogam leaders had  been persuading him.

“I am a good organiser, but I don’t think I would make a good politician. We have already held discussions with leaders belonging to various parties, including Muslim League and KC (M), and Hindu organisations for floating a political party,” he said.
