ChennaiHealth minister C. Vijaya Baskar on Friday said  the state government had created a Directorate of Youth Welfare to initiate, formulate, implement and monitor schemes for youth. 
 
Speaking at the three-day International Youth NGO Summit 2015 here, he said  the State was ahead of others in achieving the goals in demographic and health indicators.
 
“Thanks to the initiatives launched by Chief Minister J.Jayalalithaa, the State had already achieved the United Nations Millennium Development Goals (MDG).” 
 
 Pointing out that the country’s youth,  within the age group of 15 to 35 constituted nearly 40 per cent of the total population, he said  the best way to harness the full potential of the youth would be channelise their energy into productive activities.
 
Transport minister V. Senthil Balaji also took part in the summit attended by youth from 80 countries held at the Jeppiaar Engineering College.
